Hasan Doğan Piker (born July 25, 1991), known online as HasanAbi, is an American Twitch streamer and left-wing political commentator. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Turkish parents, he graduated cum laude from Rutgers University in 2013 with a double major in political science and communication studies, then began his media career at The Young Turks, the progressive outlet co-founded by his uncle Cenk Uygur. He started streaming on Twitch in March 2018 and left The Young Turks in January 2020 to focus on the platform, where he became one of its most-subscribed creators and a prominent voice on the American left.

Piker was born on July 25, 1991, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to Turkish parents; his father's family had emigrated from Thessaloniki and Crete, Greece. His father, Mehmet Behçet Piker, is a political scientist and economist, and his mother, Ülker Sedef Piker, is an art and architectural historian. His uncle is Cenk Uygur, a political commentator and co-founder of The Young Turks. Piker attended the University of Miami before transferring to Rutgers University, where he was a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity and graduated cum laude in 2013.

The Young Turksedit

Piker interned at The Young Turks during his senior year in 2013 and was hired after graduation in ad sales and business. In 2016 he created and hosted The Breakdown, a TYT Network video series offering left-leaning political analysis. Between 2016 and 2018 he also contributed political content to HuffPost. He left The Young Turks in January 2020 to focus on his Twitch career.

Twitch careeredit

Piker began streaming on Twitch on March 23, 2018, while still working at The Young Turks. His September 29, 2020, commentary on a presidential debate drew more than 125,000 viewers. In November 2020, his coverage of the U.S. election results peaked at 230,000 concurrent viewers and ranked among the most-watched sources across Twitch and YouTube that week. As of April 14, 2026, his Twitch channel had 3.1 million followers, and his YouTube channel had 1.87 million subscribers and 1.06 billion total views.

Content and styleedit

Piker's streams combine political commentary on current affairs, lifestyle discussion, video game gameplay (including Elden Ring), reaction videos to media clips, and viewer interaction. He is known for role-playing a right-wing caricature named "Hank Pecker." In October 2020 he joined U.S. representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar and streamer Pokimane for an Among Us get-out-the-vote stream that reached roughly 700,000 concurrent viewers.

Piker co-hosted the Leftovers podcast with Ethan Klein from September 26, 2021, to October 12, 2023; QTCinderella and AustinShow were later added as co-hosts. Since 2021 he has also hosted Fear& (formerly Fear&Malding) with Will Neff.

Piker identifies as a leftist, socialist, and Marxist. He advocates for workplace democracy, universal health care, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-Zionism, and gun control, and has been described as anti-Trump but "hardly a loyal Democrat" and an "old-school leftist" critical of American empire. In 2024 he received credentialed access to livestream at the Democratic National Convention.

Piker has organized several charity drives through his streams. In 2022 he raised over $200,000 for Ukraine relief via CARE International while playing Elden Ring. A February 2023 fundraiser for the Turkey–Syria earthquake raised over $1.2 million by February 10, joined by creators including Jacksepticeye, Valkyrae, Ludwig Ahgren, and IShowSpeed. An October 2023 drive for Gaza raised over $1 million for organizations including the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

Controversiesedit

In August 2019, Piker was briefly banned from Twitch after saying "America deserved 9/11" during a stream; he described the remark as satirical and acknowledged imprecise language. In 2021 he received a one-week ban for using the term "cracker." He received 24-hour Twitch bans in 2025, including one for showing an alleged shooter's manifesto. In June 2026 he was refused entry to the United Kingdom, which he attributed to his criticism of Israel.
