Mark Edward Fischbach (born June 28, 1989), known online as Markiplier, is an American YouTuber, filmmaker and actor. He registered his first YouTube channel on March 6, 2012, and rose to prominence with "Let's Play" videos of indie horror games, most notably the Five Nights at Freddy's series. Beyond gaming he has directed and starred in the interactive YouTube Original films A Heist with Markiplier (2019) and In Space with Markiplier (2022) and the feature Iron Lung (2026), co-hosted the podcast Distractible, and co-founded ventures including the clothing line Cloak. As of August 2026 his main channel had 38.8 million subscribers and 23.6 billion views.

Early life and educationedit

Mark Edward Fischbach was born on June 28, 1989, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Cliffton Morris Fischbach Jr., was a German American military officer, and his mother, Sunok Frank, is from South Korea; his maternal grandfather was a North Korean defector. He graduated from Milford High School in 2007 and studied in the biomedical engineering program at the University of Cincinnati, dropping out in 2012, two semesters before completing the degree.

YouTube careeredit

Fischbach registered his first YouTube channel on March 6, 2012, and began a Let's Play series with Amnesia: The Dark Descent, reaching 94,000 subscribers within his first year. In April 2012 he moved to his current channel because of AdSense issues, and in early 2014 he relocated to Los Angeles. He signed with William Morris Endeavor in November 2016 and later with United Talent Agency in March 2023. As of August 7, 2026, his main channel had 38.8 million subscribers and 23.6 billion views.

Markiplier is known primarily for Let's Play videos of indie horror games, most notably Five Nights at Freddy's. His first video on that series, uploaded August 13, 2014, had accumulated over 127 million views as of February 2026. His early breakout content also included Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Unus Annusedit

On November 15, 2019, Markiplier co-launched the YouTube channel Unus Annus with fellow creator Ethan Nestor. Built around the concept of the passage of time, the channel and all of its videos were deleted exactly one year later, on November 14, 2020. The project won a Streamy Award for Best Collaboration in 2021.

Film, television and actingedit

Markiplier wrote, directed and produced the interactive YouTube Original films A Heist with Markiplier (October 2019) and In Space with Markiplier (2022), and directed, produced, wrote, financed and starred in the feature film Iron Lung, released January 30, 2026, in which he played Simon. He voiced 5.0.5 in Cartoon Network's Villainous (2017-2021), starred in the television adaptation of The Edge of Sleep (2024), and made a cameo in Smosh: The Movie (2015).

Podcastsedit

Markiplier's audio projects include The Edge of Sleep, a podcast that debuted in September 2019 and received a television remake on Amazon Prime Video in 2024. His podcast Distractible, co-hosted with Wade Barnes and Bob Muyskens, launched in May 2021 and reached number one on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. He later launched Go! My Favorite Sports Team with Tyler Schied in February 2022, following the earlier 3 Peens in a Pod (2018-2021).

Business venturesedit

Markiplier joined the board of Red Giant Entertainment in November 2014. In October 2018 he co-founded the clothing line Cloak with Jacksepticeye; Pokimane joined as a partner and creative director in June 2020. On December 9, 2022, he launched an OnlyFans account, which briefly crashed the site; proceeds were split between Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the World Food Programme.

Markiplier has won four Streamy Awards, including the 2020 Scripted Series award for A Heist with Markiplier, the 2021 Best Collaboration award for Unus Annus, and 2022 awards for In Space with Markiplier. He received the Golden Joystick Award for Best Streamer/Broadcaster in 2017, a Children's and Family Emmy nomination for Outstanding Interactive Media in 2022, and was ranked by Forbes as the third-highest-paid creator in 2022.

Personal lifeedit

Markiplier married Amy Nelson on September 20, 2025, after about ten years together, and the couple own dogs named Chica and Sandy. His father died of lung cancer on July 4, 2008, when Fischbach was 18. His brother, Tom Fischbach, is the comic artist behind the webcomic Twokinds. A memoir titled Markiplier From North Korea, authored by his mother, was published in December 2025. He has raised roughly $3 million for cancer charities as of a 2017 figure.
