Alexandre Borba Chiqueta (born 2 December 1983), known as Gaules, is a Brazilian Twitch streamer and former professional Counter-Strike player from São Paulo. He founded the team g3nerationX in 2001 and competed and coached through 2007, when MIBR won DreamHack Winter undefeated. After leaving esports and a period of severe depression, he began streaming on Twitch in January 2018, building the 'Tribo' (Tribe) community around Counter-Strike coverage. He became one of the world's most-watched streamers, ranking second globally on Twitch in both 2020 and 2021, and by October 2025 had 4.3 million Twitch followers.

Early life and educationedit

Gaules was born Alexandre Borba Chiqueta on 2 December 1983 in São Paulo, Brazil. He began frequenting the Monkey Tatuapé LAN house around 2000-2001 and became the leader of a junior Counter-Strike team at the age of 17. He later completed a degree in Marketing during his time working at Samsung.

Professional Counter-Strike careeredit

On 27 July 2001, Gaules founded the Counter-Strike team g3nerationX (g3x), which reached the World Cyber Games final in Seoul that year, placing seventh or eighth. The team was undefeated between 2001 and 2003 and won titles including the LatinCup (2004), World Cyber Games Brasil (2005) and CPL World Season 2006: Brazil. In 2007 he moved to MIBR as a player and manager before shifting to coaching; MIBR won DreamHack Winter 2007 undefeated.

Corporate hiatus and personal strugglesedit

In mid-2008 Gaules left esports to work at Samsung as an intern in its IT division, reportedly the first employee hired there without a completed diploma. He returned to esports around 2010 and founded the Seleção Brasileira de Games in 2011, alongside other ventures such as the Brazil Gaming League and Agência X5. In 2017 he was diagnosed with severe depression and attempted suicide in December of that year, later speaking publicly about his treatment and recovery.

Streaming careeredit

Gaules began streaming on Twitch in January 2018 with the support of former g3x teammates. He first reached 100,000 concurrent viewers on 1 March 2019, passed one million Twitch followers in June 2020 and two million on 28 October 2020, and reached 50,000 channel subscriptions on 31 July 2021. In 2020 and 2021 he was the second most-watched streamer on Twitch worldwide, behind xQc. As of 19 October 2025 he had 4.3 million Twitch followers and 1.17 million YouTube subscribers.

Content and the Tribo communityedit

His streams focus primarily on Counter-Strike (CS 1.6, CS:GO and Counter-Strike 2), particularly co-streaming professional tournaments for his fanbase, known as the 'Tribo' (Tribe). He has also broadcast Valorant, NBA games, Formula 1, the Stock Car Pro Series and Brazilian football's Campeonato Carioca. A position on the Counter-Strike map 'Train' was popularly named 'Gaules' in his honor, and on 25 January 2021 his face was featured as the global PogChamp emote on Twitch for one day.

Business venturesedit

Gaules has undertaken numerous partnerships. In September 2020 he launched a Banco do Brasil credit card tied to the Tribo community, and in 2021 he became the first Brazilian to broadcast NBA games (31 May) and Formula 1 (12 November) on Twitch. In December 2021 he launched the podcast 'Fenômenos' with footballer Ronaldo. In 2022 he joined Red Bull's athlete roster and was named Head of Gaming at the retailer KaBuM!.

Awards and recognitionedit

At the 2020 Prêmio eSports Brasil, Gaules won Personality of the Year and Best Streamer of the Year, and he won Best Streamer again in 2021. He was named Geek Personality of the Year at the 2021 Prêmio Cubo de Ouro and won the Prêmio iBest 'Gamer Influencer' award in 2021, 2023 and 2024. He was also nominated for Content Creator of the Year at The Game Awards 2021.

Philanthropyedit

Gaules has been active in charitable fundraising, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2020 he personally donated 156,000 reais through a charity tournament, and he supported organizations including CUFA, SOS Pantanal and Bahia flood relief. On 24 December 2021 he donated 115,000 reais toward an elderly woman's medical care.
